In his statement yesterday, Akpan highlighted Akpabio’s insult towards Obong Attah, where the former governor had asserted that genuine development in the state only began during his tenure. Akpan argued that Attah had played a significant role in advancing Akpabio’s political journey and insisted that the Senate President refrain from tarnishing the name of his benefactor.

He expressed, “Let me, on behalf of the entire people of Akwa Ibom, warn Akpabio to stop insulting Obong Attah, former governor and undisputed father of modern Akwa Ibom State.”

Akpabio’s public statement claiming that Akwa Ibom never experienced “real development” until his governorship in 2007 drew Akpan’s criticism. He deemed such remarks unacceptable and pointed out that Akwa Ibom faced challenges like kidnapping and indiscriminate killings during Akpabio’s tenure.

Akpan emphasized Akpabio’s indebtedness to Obong Attah, who salvaged his political career by appointing him commissioner for six years in his administration. According to Akpan, without Attah’s intervention, Akpabio wouldn’t have risen to become the Senate President today.

He noted the significant projects initiated by Obong Attah, including the Ibom Airport, Ibom Icon Hotel and Golf Course, Gas Processing Project, major highways, and the Akwa Ibom Master Plan, emphasizing the legacy of development left by Attah in the state.
