In an official statement signed by Abia State Commissioner for Information and Culture, Okey Kanu, the government accepted the board’s recommendations to remove Eze Kanu Nwa Kanu Okereke as the traditional ruler of Ibom Isii community. The government directed the Ibom Isii kindred to initiate the process of selecting a new Eze to replace the deposed monarch.

Furthermore, the state government recognized Princes Eberechukwu Oji, one of the claimants to the Eze Aro stool, and directed his immediate coronation as Eze Aro IX. The statement emphasized the nullification of the coronation/installation of Prince Godwin Kanu Idei as Eze Aro IX by the deposed Eze Kanu Nwa Kanu Okereke.

The government affirmed the selection process adopted by the Okennachi Kindred, endorsing Prince Eberechukwu Oji as the Eze Aro Designate. The commissioner, Okey Kanu, stated, “Government directs that Prince Eberechukwu Oji be crowned by the community as Eze Aro IX immediately.”

Despite the government’s decision, sources from Arochukwu LGA revealed that the deposed traditional ruler, Eze Kanu Nwa Kanu Okereke, maintains popularity among his supporters and family members in Ibom Isii. The development signifies a significant shift in the traditional leadership of the community, sparking discussions about the impact on local dynamics and community cohesion.
