During a press briefing at the INEC headquarters in Awka, Dr. Elizabeth Agwu, the Resident Electoral Commissioner in Anambra State, stated that the commission has mobilized both human and material resources, including security personnel, to ensure a credible election on February 3, 2024.
Dr. Agwu emphasized that voters’ votes would count, and none would be intimidated or disfranchised. She urged residents to vote for the best candidates and not be swayed by manipulation or vote-buying attempts. The REC assured voters that the election would be free, fair, and credible, with adequate security measures in place.
She cautioned against using individuals as thugs or scapegoats and emphasized that the 2022 INEC Electoral Act prohibits manipulation, vote buying, or vote selling, and offenders would be prosecuted. Dr. Agwu also noted that political campaigns would conclude two days before the election date.
The rerun elections will take place at 16 polling units in Nanka, Orumba North Local Government Area, to determine the representative for Orumba North and Orumba South federal constituency. Additionally, elections will be held in five polling units in Nnewi, Nnewi North Local Government Area, to determine the representative for Nnewi North, Nnewi South, and Ekwusigo federal constituency.
The INEC REC disclosed that the total number of affected voters at the polling units in Nnewi North is 97,438, while in Orumba North, there are 161,914 voters.

The scrutiny came to light when the NFF turned down an application filed under the Freedom of Information Act by the law firm Cromwell & Okeke. The firm had formally requested financial statements, utilization logs, and related records concerning the multi-billion naira disbursement.
In a letter dated August 18, 2026, and signed by Onoja Joshua, Esq., on behalf of the NFF General Secretary, the football body stated that it could not fulfill the request. The federation explained that all relevant documentation regarding the ₦12 billion fund has been handed over to the EFCC and ICPC as part of their ongoing inquiries.

Emphasizing that no illegal development will be tolerated to compromise critical public infrastructure or alter the Abuja Master Plan, Wike instructed the Department of Development Control to clear the obstructions right away.
“We’ll have to demolish this right now. How can it be like this? It’s a road and not a layout,” the minister stated.
Describing Arterial Road N16 as a vital project slated for completion by December, Wike also inspected progress on the five-kilometer Zaudna-Kaba-Kagini Road and a Magistrate Court under construction in Garki.
