Warning On CBN Move: Ndume Stresses Potential Political Fallout
Senator Ali Ndume, the Chief Whip of the Senate, has expressed his determination that there will be political repercussions if President Bola Tinubu does not intervene to reverse the decision made by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) to relocate key departments from the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) to Lagos State…..CONTINUE READING....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Ndume made this assertion during an appearance on Channels Television’s program on Tuesday.
The controversy arose when an internal memo circulated last week revealed the CBN’s directive to move certain units to Lagos in an effort to ease congestion at the Abuja headquarters. The decision faced strong opposition, particularly from Northerners, who viewed it as a plan to further marginalize the Northern region.
Ndume, representing Borno South, criticized the decision, stating that it was not well thought out. He expressed confidence that President Tinubu would reverse the decision, but warned of potential consequences if that did not happen, emphasizing the democratic process.
Questioning the rationale behind choosing Lagos for the relocation, Ndume suggested alternative states closer to the nation’s capital, such as Nasarawa, Kogi, or Kaduna. He highlighted the increase in costs and risks associated with running operations between Lagos and Abuja.
The senator also cautioned against bringing tribalism into the discussion, emphasizing his identity as a Northerner and Nigerian. He attributed the decision to individuals he believed were misleading the president, pointing out the potential political consequences and noting Tinubu’s role in the appointment of the CBN governor.
