Orders Mandatory Declaration Of Assets By Katsina Public Officials

Emphasizing the importance of such declarations in promoting transparency and fostering public trust in governance, Governor Radda made the announcement during a meeting at the Katsina State Government House with Barrister Murtala Aliyu Kankia, the Acting Chairman of the Code of Conduct Bureau (CCB).
Governor Radda reaffirmed his commitment to providing a conducive working environment for CCB personnel in the state. He asserted that declaring assets to the CCB should be a prerequisite for anyone entering public service, underscoring its role in ensuring transparency and holding officials accountable for their financial dealings.
Barrister Kankia, in his remarks, expanded on the CCB’s responsibilities beyond overseeing asset declarations. He highlighted their mandate to enforce the code of conduct for public officers, addressing issues such as conflict of interest, bribery, corruption, prohibition of employment in foreign countries, membership in specific organizations, operating foreign bank accounts, and restricting business activities to farming.
Warning against concealing assets, Kankia stressed that such assets would be forfeited to the Federal Government. He outlined the severe consequences of false or anticipatory declarations, including a ten-year ban from holding public office or immediate dismissal from current positions.
Acknowledging the ongoing asset verification exercise targeting senior officials, permanent secretaries, and heads of government agencies, Kankia sought Governor Radda’s continued support in promoting widespread asset declaration among all public servants. He also sought collaboration from other stakeholders to ensure the effective fulfillment of the CCB’s mandate.
