The All Progressives Congress (APC) has urged the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to issue a sincere apology to the courts and judges for the groundless, irresponsible, reckless, and unfounded attacks it launched against the judiciary throughout the electoral cycle….CONTINUE READING....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

This call from the APC follows the recent judgments by the Supreme Court on Friday concerning governorship election petitions in Lagos, Kano, Zamfara, Plateau, Ebonyi, Bauchi, Abia, and Cross River.

In a statement, party spokesman Felix Morka emphasized, “If the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has even a shred of decency left, it must extend an unreserved apology to the courts and our judges for the senseless, irresponsible, reckless, and unjustified attacks it waged against the judiciary throughout this electoral cycle.”

Morka acknowledged the Supreme Court’s decisions on election petitions challenging the results of the 2023 governorship elections in eight states, stating that the APC accepts them with calm composure. While the Supreme Court upheld the election results in Lagos, Ebonyi, and Cross River States, decisions in Kano, Zamfara, Bauchi, Plateau, and Abia states favored other political parties and their candidates.

“While reactions and reviews of the Apex Court’s decisions are inevitable, it is crucial to recognize that these decisions are final and binding on all parties involved in the legal contests. Today’s decisions strongly reaffirm the authority, vitality, and independence of the judiciary,” Morka added.

The APC has consistently maintained its stance that the judiciary should be allowed to carry out its vital duty of resolving disputes, including electoral disputes, as constitutionally mandated. Morka concluded by noting that these decisions should serve as a reprimand to political opposition figures who criticized and disparaged the courts when judgments were unfavorable to them in similar matters.

Human rights lawyer Frank Tietie has criticized the nomination and subsequent confirmation of Professor Abayomi Fasina, the former Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University, Oye-Ekiti, as a non-career ambassador designate.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

  • Prior to his confirmation, a coalition of civil society organizations protested at the National Assembly on July 7, 2026, opposing Fasina’s nomination due to pending court cases involving allegations of sexual harassment, human rights violations, and victimization.

  • Despite these protests, the Nigerian Senate officially confirmed Fasina’s appointment as a non-career ambassador on Thursday.

Frank Tietie’s Position

  • During an interview on ARISE Television, Tietie argued that nominating an individual with such “baggage” was a mistake, emphasizing that ambassadors represent Nigeria in the same capacity as the President.

  • Tietie stated that the government should have sent the “right signals” by avoiding such controversial appointments, especially given the current state of governance.

  • He argued that even in the absence of a final court judgment, the allegations themselves have “tainted” Fasina’s reputation, and the Senate should have delayed the confirmation until the legal matters were resolved.

  • Tietie also suggested that the National Assembly’s decision overlooks significant social changes regarding how such allegations are now viewed by society.
