In a statement to journalists in Akure, Odebowale, who had a working relationship with Akeredolu spanning three decades, expressed that he couldn’t replicate the same level of dedication and loyalty to Aiyedatiwa. Recounting his role in persuading Akeredolu to contest the 2018 gubernatorial election, Odebowale cited personal reasons for his decision, emphasizing that his commitment was deeply rooted in the support and encouragement he received from the late governor.
He stated, “I have worked with Akeredolu for 30 years. I was the last person who convinced him to contest the previous election. I wrote all his campaign content. It is more of a personal reason for me. I have nothing against whoever is in office now.”
Odebowale further explained that without the person who initially brought him into the office, he felt there was no purpose in remaining in that space and pretending. He underscored the personal and familial nature of his association with Akeredolu, describing the late governor as a brother who provided unwavering support and allowed him to flourish in his role.
