Just In: Henry Seriake Dickson Foundation-Launches 2023/2024 Education Support Scheme For Bayelsa Students

The Henry Seriake Dickson Foundation, in its ongoing commitment to education and human capacity development, announces the commencement of the 2023/2024 Education Support Scheme sponsored by Senator Henry Seriake Dickson. The 2023 beneficiaries of the scheme include 300 undergraduates from Bayelsa West Senatorial District, 300 undergraduates of Bayelsa State origin from various universities, polytechnics, and colleges of education in the state, who are on first class or second class upper standing, and others deemed eligible by the committee. Additionally, 100 students pursuing their Master’s degree programs and 50 PhD candidates will also benefit from the scheme.

The Screening Committee, responsible for the selection process, includes distinguished individuals such as Prof. Barclays Ayakoroma, Prof. Tawari Fufeyin, Prof. Christine Odi, Dr. Akpoebi Adesi, Prof. Peter Ayunku, Dr. Tam Azorbo, Dr. Sunday Abraye, Mr. Bolou Resident, Mr. Moses Atti, Comrade Tamarapreye Kings, Miss Hope Asanakpo, Dr. Stella P Ugolo, and Aaron Richard Pereyei.

Interested students can obtain the application forms free of charge by contacting any of the Committee Members listed in the announcement. The closing date for form submission is Tuesday, 2nd January 2024.

Senator Henry Seriake Dickson, who has consistently invested in education, expressed his dedication to supporting the educational endeavors of successful candidates. The Henry Seriake Dickson Education Support Scheme, which benefited 600 undergraduates and Bayelsa students at the Nigeria Law School in 2022, remains a significant initiative by the Henry Seriake Dickson Foundation. The formal presentation of grants to successful candidates is scheduled for January.

    Traditional Heritage and Title

    • In 1990, Alhaji received the prominent traditional title of Sardauna of Sokoto.

    • He succeeded to this revered Sokoto Caliphate title—previously held by Sir Ahmadu Bello, the assassinated Premier of Northern Nigeria—and was widely viewed as a guardian of the Caliphate’s heritage and history.
