In a statement titled “Addressing Insecurity in South-East,” issued on Thursday in Umuahia, PISE-P’s Head of Media, Mrs. Mary Ikoku, highlighted the group’s commitment to extensive advocacy among notable figures from the South-East and across the country to expedite a peaceful resolution to the security crisis.

Ikoku elaborated on the group’s belief in utilizing a non-kinetic approach, taking into account the region’s cultural nuances and behavioral dynamics. She emphasized the importance of engaging in dialogue to gain a comprehensive understanding of the issues at hand, with the ultimate goal of restoring the South-East to its former state of prosperity.

“The non-kinetic approach will take into cognizance the culture of the people, their behavioral pattern, and we say ‘engage them in dialogue,'” she remarked.

She attributed the heightened insecurity in the region to the failure of the Federal Government to address the grievances and concerns of the people through meaningful dialogue. The group laid blame on the lack of an appropriate response from the Federal Government to the popular concerns raised by individuals and groups in the region.

To remedy the situation, she strongly advocated for the adoption of dialogue between state and non-state actors as a crucial step towards ending the conflict.

Adeboye’s Stance Clarified: “We Did Not Endorse Failure Or Insecurity,” Says Senior RCCG Pastor.

Published

Pastor Johnson Odesola, the Continental Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) for Continent 3, has publicly defended General Overseer Pastor Enoch Adeboye regarding recent criticisms of his comments on Nigeria’s insecurity.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Clarification of Remarks

In a statement titled “Pastor Adeboye Deserves Fair Hearing, Not Unfair Criticism,” Odesola argued that the General Overseer’s comments were unfairly portrayed as a defense of President Bola Tinubu’s administration:

  • Odesola asserted that many critics formed opinions based on short social media clips rather than listening to the full remarks delivered at a Washington, D.C. gala.

  • He clarified that Pastor Adeboye acknowledged the spread of terrorism, kidnapping, and banditry across both Northern and Southern Nigeria and did not deny that insecurity has worsened.

  • The comment regarding the President not needing to “wear khaki and go and fight” was intended as an explanation of the Commander-in-Chief’s constitutional role, not an endorsement of failure or incompetence.

  • Odesola emphasized that Pastor Adeboye actually challenged security officials to produce results and urged authorities to confront the individuals who sponsor terrorism.

Addressing Critics and National Unity

Regarding the role of religious leaders, Odesola noted:

  • Religious leaders have historically provided moral guidance during national crises, and Adeboye has consistently counseled successive administrations regardless of political affiliation.

  • While Odesola acknowledged the public’s right to disagree with the cleric, he urged critics not to distort the comments.

  • He advocated for viewing insecurity as a matter requiring collective responsibility from the government, judiciary, security agencies, traditional rulers, religious leaders, and citizens, rather than reducing it to partisan politics.

  • Ultimately, Odesola suggested that Nigerians should focus on Adeboye’s call for accountability, decisive leadership, national unity, and the defeat of terror financiers.

Reasons for the Extension

Mohammed Kudu Haruna, the National Commissioner and Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee, stated that this decision followed a comprehensive review and feedback from various stakeholders, including political parties, civil society organizations, and INEC state offices. The extension, for a process that originally commenced on August 18, 2025, aims to provide eligible Nigerians who have not yet registered another opportunity to participate in future electoral activities. INEC emphasized that this move reflects its dedication to ensuring every eligible citizen has a fair chance to be included in the Register of Voters.

New Online Self-Service Option

In addition to the deadline extension, INEC introduced a self-service online registration portal for first-time voters, effective Wednesday, July 8, 2026. Key features of this technology include:

The Governor made this statement during a courtesy visit from the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Olatunji Disu, at the Government House in Osogbo. During the meeting, Governor Adeleke addressed claims raised by the IGP—based on information from the Osun State Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Gotan—that certain criminal suspects were allegedly seeking refuge within the Government House.

In response, Governor Adeleke:

  • Denied any involvement in protecting criminal suspects.

  • Publicly stated to the IGP, “If it is my son who committed a crime, arrest him, let him learn his lesson.”

Critique of Police Conduct

While pledging his support for law enforcement, Governor Adeleke accused certain police officers of “playing games” with their duties. He highlighted a specific case involving the killing of a 14-year-old boy in Ilobu, claiming that a police officer who successfully arrested a suspect in the case was subsequently transferred.

Call for Professionalism

Governor Adeleke praised IGP Disu’s public commitment to curbing indiscipline within the Nigeria Police Force. He urged police officers in Osun State to uphold professionalism, fairness, and impartiality. The Governor concluded by affirming that his administration is prepared to cooperate with the police, provided that officers perform their duties correctly and ethically.
