Speaking through Director Mukhtar Galadima at a citizen engagement event in Abuja on Tuesday, the minister underscored the community’s role in fostering development. He clarified that the Nigerian Air Force had approached the Department of Development Control, expressing the need to relocate the village as it falls within the designated presidential fleet plots.
Galadima disclosed that the FCT administration would approach the matter responsibly, opting for community discussions instead of abrupt demolitions. He specified that around 150 to 200 houses, along with associated commercial establishments, would be impacted by the relocation.
Addressing queries regarding compensation for affected residents, Galadima mentioned ongoing talks with the Air Force and the necessity for further investigation into previous compensation disbursements, recipients, and timelines. He stressed the significance of addressing security concerns, especially given the community’s proximity to the Air Force formation and the presidential fleet.
Galadima assured a comprehensive community engagement process, focusing on the areas directly influenced by the presidential fleet plot. Rather than continuing with peace accords, Sowore advocated for a “Justice Accord” that would enforce strict sanctions against any candidates or parties who breach their commitments.
