Breaking: Federal High Court Rejects-Lawsuit Against CCB On Peter Obi’s Asset Declaration Allegations
A Federal High Court in Abuja has rejected a lawsuit seeking to mandate the Code of Conduct Bureau (CCB) to investigate and prosecute allegations of asset declaration breaches against Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi…..CONTINUE READING....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

The case, brought forward by self-proclaimed human rights activist and lawyer Olukoya Ogungbeje, accused Obi of not declaring offshore holdings, operating foreign accounts during his public office tenure, and serving as a director of a UK company for 14 months after assuming the governorship of Anambra State. Ogungbeje argued that these alleged actions contravened the Code of Conduct Bureau and Tribunal Act as well as the Nigerian Constitution.
Initially granted leave to file an application for an order of mandamus against the CCB in early November, Ogungbeje failed to appear in court along with his lawyer during the hearing on Tuesday. Consequently, Justice Inyang Ekwo dismissed the suit on the grounds of lack of diligent prosecution.
The claim that the CCB neglected its public duty by not acting on Ogungbeje’s complaint remains unaddressed, and the CCB has not issued any public statement on the matter. Despite initially allowing Ogungbeje to proceed with the case, Justice Ekwo struck out the suit due to the absence of the complainant and his legal representation during the scheduled hearing.

In a statement issued on Tuesday by his Chief Press Secretary, Olamide Tiamiyu, the Speaker strongly condemned the alleged order as an unacceptable threat to democracy. He stressed that political disputes should never justify bloodshed and reminded law enforcement that their primary constitutional duty is to protect citizens, not endanger them.
Demands for Transparency and Investigation
Recalling past public concerns regarding alleged police “killer squads,” Egbedun noted that previous denials by the force do not dismiss the gravity of current patterns. He has formally called on the Inspector-General of Police to launch an immediate, transparent investigation into CP Gotan’s directives and to clarify operational orders across all Osun formations.
Furthermore, the Speaker urged civil society organizations, the media, and human rights advocates to remain vigilant. He warned that he will personally pursue all available domestic and international legal avenues to ensure accountability if any citizen loses their life due to unlawful police actions.
