The governor emphasized that no amount of alcoholism or drug addiction could justify actions against the law. He stated, “We are resolute in eliminating crime and criminality, ensuring the safety of our state’s residents and visitors.”
Otti underscored the importance of the campaign, emphasizing the need to educate individuals about the implications of cultism and drug addiction. He expressed concern about the close association of armed robbery, kidnapping, violent crimes, and banditry with cultism and drug addiction.
He urged participants to take the campaign seriously and to spread awareness about the dangers of cultism and drug addiction.
The Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, represented by DCP Sani Shuaibu, praised the campaign as timely and commendable. He assured stakeholders of the police’s readiness to collaborate with other agencies and the Abia State Government to combat the menace of cultism and drug addiction.
The Director General of the Abia State Orientation Agency, Pastor Dike Nwankwo, highlighted the dangers linked to cultism and drug addiction, emphasizing that the campaign would facilitate the exchange of ideas and offer solutions to these issues.
In a keynote lecture titled “Building a New Abia Through Responsible Citizenship,” Prof. Maduebibisi Iwe, Vice Chancellor of Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike, addressed challenges facing youth, including unemployment, inadequate revenue generation, and a weak industrial base. He stressed the importance of responsible citizenship, especially among the youth, urging everyone to embrace this responsibility.
