The House of Representatives has indicated its readiness to investigate the loss of over $60 billion in revenue attributed to inflated cash calls within the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) Joint Venture Agreements. The decision followed the adoption of a motion presented by Chika Okafor during Wednesday’s plenary. Okafor highlighted that the NNPCL, representing the Federal Government, engages in Joint Ventures with private oil companies in the oil and gas sectors to generate sustainable revenue for national economic development. He emphasized that NNPCL holds approximately 60%, with other partners holding the remaining 40% in these joint ventures.

Okafor pointed out that the NNPCL Upstream Investment Management Services, responsible for negotiating costs, has caused significant losses amounting to about $60 billion due to inflated cash call costs over the years. The motion aims to ensure transparency and value for money in NNPCL Joint Venture operations.

Additionally, the House has called for the immediate remittance of the accrued five percent users’ charge on petrol pump price and diesel to the Federal Roads Maintenance Agency (FERMA). A motion presented by Aderemi Oseni urged relevant authorities, including the Ministry of Petroleum Resources, NNPCL, and others, to comply with the Agency’s (Amendment) Act of 2007, which mandates the remittance of the users’ charge to FERMA.

Oseni expressed concern about the non-remittance of approximately N900 billion in user charges on petrol and diesel pumps since the enactment of the amendment in 2007, negatively impacting FERMA’s finances and its ability to maintain federal roads.
