Welcoming the students at the State House Presidential Villa, Abuja, the First Lady emphasized the crucial role of learning and education as effective tools in combating terrorism and criminality within both individuals and communities.
Addressing the students, she conveyed the nation’s joy in welcoming them back home and acknowledged the period of pain and anguish experienced by the students, their parents, teachers, and all Nigerians since their abduction on October 5, 2023.
Throughout this challenging period, the First Lady expressed unwavering faith in God and law enforcement agencies, acknowledging their tireless efforts in ensuring the safe return of the students. She thanked Almighty God for their protection and reunification with their families.
The First Lady assured the rescued girls of the Federal Government’s and the Renewed Hope Initiative’s (RHI) commitment to providing psychological and educational support for their recovery. She stressed the importance of not allowing their harrowing experience to impede their educational pursuits and career aspirations.
In addition to celebrating their safe return, the First Lady pledged ongoing support to ensure the students not only recover from this traumatic episode but also achieve success in their educational and career journeys. Each rescued girl was granted a Scholarship Grant of One Million Naira and a brand-new laptop from the Renewed Hope Initiative.
Senator Oluremi Tinubu recognized the challenges faced by the rescued girls and other kidnapped Nigerians, encouraging them to persevere with the determination of security and intelligence forces, supported by the entire nation.
As a gesture of appreciation, the Federal Government announced a financial reward of Two Million Naira to the parents of each rescued girl and One Million Naira to the Vice Chancellor of the University.
The First Lady expressed gratitude for the safe return of the students and commended the Office of the National Security Adviser for its leadership role and the effective coordination of law enforcement agencies in securing their release. The meeting also included the parents of the rescued girls, the Deputy Vice Chancellor of the Federal University Dutsin-Ma Katsina, and representatives of the Inspector General of Police and National Counter Terrorism Legal Officer.
