According to the World Economic Forum, as reported by the World of Statistics, Jakarta, Indonesia, tops the list, experiencing a sinking rate of 6.7 inches per year, primarily due to excessive groundwater extraction.

Lagos is reported to be sinking at a rate of 0.3 inches annually, and it is also grappling with the threat of coastal erosion.

Houston, Texas, in the United States, follows closely as the third city on the list, sinking at a rate of 0.2 inches per year, and it faces the additional threat of hurricanes.

In addition to Jakarta, Lagos, and Houston, the list includes Dhaka, Bangladesh, Venice, Italy, Virginia Beach, Virginia, Bangkok, Thailand, New Orleans, Louisiana, Rotterdam, Netherlands, and Alexandria, Egypt.

Miami, Florida secures the 11th position on this list of sinking cities.
