This downward trend in local pump prices follows the Dangote Refinery’s move to lower its gantry price to ₦1,175 per litre, prompted by a recent drop in global crude oil prices. As of the latest report, Brent crude was trading at about $80 per barrel, while West Texas Intermediate was valued at $76 per barrel. The Federal High Court in Abuja is scheduled to hear a lawsuit on Monday regarding the nomination of former Rivers State Governor, Donald Duke, as the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP) presidential candidate for the 2027 election. The case, filed by PRP aspirant Dr. Yakubu Kingsley and marked FHC/ABJ/CS/1234/2026, names the PRP, Duke, and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) as defendants. Justice Mohammed Umar has scheduled the hearing, and notices have been issued to all parties involved.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

  • Eligibility and Screening Issues: Kingsley contends that Duke was not a registered PRP member when the party’s register was submitted to INEC on May 4. He further claims Duke should not have been cleared for the primary, alleging he failed to attend the mandatory physical screening at the party’s national secretariat.

  • Claims of Electoral Irregularity: The plaintiff alleges significant over-voting in Bauchi, Gombe, and Kwara states, citing specific discrepancies between the number of registered members and the votes recorded. Consequently, he is requesting that the court set aside the results from these states.

  • Request for Candidacy: Asserting that he complied with all party requirements and underwent the proper screening process, Kingsley is asking the court to declare him the rightful PRP presidential candidate.

  • Injunction Against Duke: The plaintiff seeks an order directing INEC to remove Duke’s name from its database and to cease recognizing him as the party’s flagbearer.

  • Contention of Lawful Votes: Kingsley maintains that the primary was manipulated and argues that if the allegedly inflated and unlawful votes are excluded, he is the candidate who secured the highest number of lawful votes.
