Nigerians Call For Urgent Action As CSO Exposes The High Rate Of Stunting In Jigawa State (Details)
A statement from the Civil Society Organization, Scaling up Nutrition in Nigeria (CS-SUNN), expressed concern about the alleged sale and diversion of Ready-to-Use Therapeutic Food (RUTF) for malnourished children in Jigawa State…..CONTINUE READING....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

The CSO, through its state Chairman, Shua’ibu Musa Kafingana, asserted that women receiving therapeutic food for their malnourished children are reportedly selling it for financial gain, exacerbating the suffering of affected children. This practice is believed to contribute to the high rate of stunting in Jigawa State, which currently has the highest cases in Nigeria.
Kafingana reported that the CSO gathered this information during an advocacy visit to the Ministry of Budget and Economic Planning and Jigawa State Primary Healthcare Development Agency (PHCDA) on Thursday. The purpose of the visit was to advocate for an extension of maternity leave from three to six months for breastfeeding mothers in the state.
The CS-SUNN team recommended strengthening the monitoring and evaluation framework for the effective utilization of RUTF and called for increased community sensitization on proper diet, nutrition components, and eating habits. In response, Dr. Shehu Sambo, the Director of PHCDA, assured that Jigawa State is actively addressing nutrition issues. He pledged to critically consider national policies regarding six months of maternity leave and emphasized the importance of proper monitoring of RUTF utilization.

-
The Senate President contrasted that period with the current state of affairs, observing that more infrastructure projects are now being completed and commissioned across the FCT.

Fake Names, Real Tensions? FG Exposes The Truth Behind Ethiopia Prisoner Controversy!
....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
The Federal Government has provided clarification regarding the Transfer of Sentenced Persons Agreement signed with Ethiopia. Minister of Foreign Affairs, Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu, stated that the agreement is a diplomatic and humanitarian initiative designed to allow Nigerians convicted in Ethiopia to serve the remainder of their sentences in their home country.
-
Clarification on Inmate Numbers: Minister Odumegwu-Ojukwu dismissed a viral list claiming there are 136 Nigerian inmates, clarifying that the agreement actually covers 98 prisoners located across two maximum-security facilities, Kaliti and Aba Samuel.
-
Humanitarian Rationale: The transfer aims to address the precarious conditions faced by these inmates, which include poor feeding, health challenges, lack of medical facilities, denial of visitation rights, and language barriers.
-
Safeguards Against Early Release: The Minister refuted concerns that transferred inmates would be pardoned upon arrival, noting that the memorandum of understanding explicitly prohibits granting amnesty or pardon without the consent of the sentencing state.
-
Rejection of Ethnic Bias: Addressing claims regarding the origin of the inmates, the Minister debunked allegations that the prisoners are from only one region, emphasizing that the 98 individuals originate from various parts of Nigeria, including the Southeast, Southwest, and South-South.
-
Urgency of Action: The need for the agreement was underscored by the fact that four Nigerian prisoners died while the two nations were finalizing the deal.
