According to Nwanyanwu, investigations have revealed that the State Security Services (SSS) brought charges against Dantalle in October 2021, accusing him of being found with dangerous weapons at Ayingba in Kogi State in the same year. The case is still pending before the Federal High Court, Lokoja.

Despite these criminal charges, Dantalle is reportedly competing for the IPAC national chairmanship position against Engr Yabagi Yusuf Sani, the National Chairman of Action Democratic Party (ADP). The IPAC electoral committee’s decision on Dantalle’s eligibility remains uncertain.

Nwanyanwu, contacted by phone, clarified that he is not in a position to make determinations on the contestants’ eligibility. As the election umpire, his role is to ensure a peaceful and free election.

A statement disclosed that the State Security Service instituted a case against Dantalle in October 2021, with the charges yet to be adjudicated by the court. The charges include the alleged possession of a Barreta Pistol without a license and the possession of nine live rounds of ammunition without a license.

When contacted, Dantalle acknowledged the ongoing court case, asserting his presumption of innocence until proven guilty. He emphasized that the court has not found him guilty of the charges.

Speaking at a press briefing in Abuja on Tuesday, the party’s National Chairman, Prince Chinedu Obi, said NRM is focused on building a strong platform that will produce a credible presidential candidate capable of challenging the incumbent government in 2027.

Responding to questions from journalists, Obi reiterated that the party would contest the elections independently, stressing: “We are not planning to merge with any political party or join any coalition. We will produce our own presidential candidate.”

He also claimed that the Federal High Court had resolved the party’s internal dispute following the dismissal of an appeal filed by a faction led by Chief Edozie Njoku.

He made the remarks during his acceptance speech after emerging as President of the Congress for a four-year term at an elective congress held in Abuja.

He declared that the region’s young people would no longer remain passive, stressing that they intend to organise, mobilise, and ensure their voices are properly represented.

He issued the warning while responding to a matter of urgent public importance raised by the lawmaker representing Sagamu II State Constituency, Ademola Adeniran, during a plenary session.
