• Suspicious Timing: In an interview on ARISE Television, Akande clarified that he supports anti-corruption efforts, but executing such a drastic measure on the eve of an election inevitably breeds public distrust and fuels conspiracy theories.

• Defense of Presidential Intervention: Akande backed President Bola Tinubu’s directive for the EFCC to reverse the freeze, asserting that the President acted appropriately as the Commander-in-Chief to preserve public order and safeguard democratic stability.

• Threat to Democracy: He warned that the anti-graft agency’s actions damaged Nigeria’s reputation internationally, creating the dangerous perception that federal institutions are being weaponized to manipulate electoral processes.

However, speaking with some Biafra agitators during his appeal hearing proceedings on Thursday, Ekpa said the wrong person is being imprisoned.
