Breaking: House Of Representatives Pushes For Committee Addressing Fiscal And Monetary Policy Coordination

During an interactive session with the Comptroller General of the Nigeria Customs Service, Adewale Adeniyi, Chairman Leke Abejide emphasized the need for transparency and open dialogue on fiscal and monetary matters, particularly in relation to trade. He proposed that the tripartite committee would facilitate thorough discussions and analyses of crucial decisions before their implementation, fostering a conducive environment for economic growth and preventing potential disruptions.
Abejide also called for the implementation of the House resolution, suggesting a 90-day notice for any policy changes. This, he argued, would prevent keeping investors and importers in the dark about policy alterations and ensure a smoother transition for ongoing transactions.
Members of the committee expressed concern about multiple checkpoints established by the Nigeria Customs Service nationwide and urged collaboration with sister agencies to address smuggling cases. In response, the Customs boss highlighted ongoing efforts to work closely with border communities but raised concerns about the lack of basic amenities in those areas. He appealed to the Federal Government to provide necessary amenities to support the Nigerian Customs in carrying out its responsibilities effectively.
