This £20 million damages award was disclosed during a subsequent ruling in London, which aimed to clarify the aftermath of the October judgment. The court also considered whether P&ID would be granted permission to appeal the decision; however, the court denied P&ID’s request to remand the case to arbitration. The court argued that the company’s conduct throughout the process was egregious, leading to the judgment.

In the initial lawsuit between the Federal Government of Nigeria and P&ID, Justice Robin Knowles of the Commercial Courts of England and Wales affirmed Nigeria’s claim that the gas processing contract had been obtained through fraudulent means. In the judgment, delivered after five years of legal battles, Judge Knowles stated, “Nigeria succeeds on its challenge under section 68. I have not accepted all of Nigeria’s allegations. But the awards were obtained by fraud and the way they were procured was contrary to public policy.”

Describing politics as a reciprocal process, Wike stressed that the era of empty promises was over:

“Leaders must demonstrate their commitment to delivering good governance. You cannot make promises during elections and vanish afterward without fulfilling them. We asked you to support Tinubu, starting with the area council elections. On February 21, you came through, delivering 133 of the 135 polling units in the council for Tinubu. What more can we say but thank you? You have done your part; we will now do ours. Abaji people have spoken, and they spoke decisively,” he said.

He said:

“In 2023, Peter Obi asked Obasanjo, who called me while I was in London. He was at the Hilton with Datti and two other stakeholders. When I answered, I didn’t hear him clearly, so I asked, ‘Who is that?’ He said, ‘My name is Obasanjo.’”

“I apologized, and he said, ‘I’m calling you to come and join me.’ At the time, he was publicly denying any role in Peter Obi’s agenda. Peter Obi wanted me to work for him, but I refused.”

Bwala added that Ambassador Amuchi Osuk was initially sent to start the campaign, and Obi’s team expected Bwala to join because of religious dynamics:
