Just In: NJC’s Confirmation Of Adepele Ojo As Osun CJ-Receives Praise From Osun Local Group

In a statement released on Saturday and signed by Prof. Wasiu Oyedokun-Alli, TOM expressed delight in the news of Justice Ojo’s affirmation, considering it a rekindling of confidence in the Judiciary as the ultimate recourse for the people.
The affirmation occurred during the 104th meeting of the National Judicial Council, chaired by Justice Kayode Ariwoola, where Justice Ojo was officially recognized as the Chief Judge of Osun State. The NJC also rejected the resolution of the Osun State House of Assembly, which suspended Justice Ojo on grounds of alleged maladministration and called for her appearance before an investigative committee. The NJC, emphasizing its constitutional authority, rejected the petition and asserted its exclusive power to investigate Judicial Officers and make recommendations to the governors.
In the statement obtained by Nivo News, TOM remarked, “The decision affirms our belief in the tenets of the separation of powers and that no individual or arm of government can assert dominance over another, either to coerce or intimidate for whatever reason.”
While acknowledging that Justice Ojo’s capabilities or cleanliness were not the focus, TOM expressed its conviction that the approach taken by the Osun State government and the state House of Assembly was erroneous and condemnable, cautioning against setting a harmful precedent.
TOM underscored the imperative of safeguarding the independence of the judiciary for a just society and commended the National Judicial Council for confirming Justice Ojo as the recognized Chief Judge of Osun State, urging the state to revert to the status quo.
The organization expressed hope that the impasse served as a lesson for both the state government and the legislature, emphasizing the supremacy of the rule of law and the non-negotiable nature of judicial independence.

Atiku Opens Up On ADC 2027 Game Plan, Says Consensus Candidate Comes First.
Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has said the African Democratic Congress (ADC) will first pursue a consensus arrangement before considering a primary election for its 2027 presidential ticket.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
Atiku made this known during an interview on Arise Television on Wednesday while discussing the party’s leadership and strategy ahead of the next general election.
He said he is open to backing a consensus candidate if that becomes the party’s collective decision, stressing that such support should not be interpreted as stepping aside.
“It is not about stepping aside, but whether I am willing to support, and yes, I will,” Atiku said.
According to him, the ADC’s first priority is to build internal unity and reach an agreement among stakeholders before considering a competitive primary process.
“Our first option will be to work out a consensus. If that doesn’t happen, then of course we will explore other options. And yes, I will support whoever eventually emerges,” he stated.
Atiku also expressed confidence in the political experience within the party, saying he believes a consensus is achievable and may make a full-scale primary contest unnecessary.
“That remains our preferred path. We will go for primaries if consensus fails, but I honestly do not expect it to get to that stage because we are dealing with mature and experienced politicians,” he added.
His comments come amid growing political consultations and coalition talks as parties begin to position themselves ahead of the 2027 general elections.
