Expressing his concerns on X, the former governor of Anambra State criticized the budget for President Bola Tinubu, Deputy Kashim Shettima, and their aides. Obi pointed out that N15.961 billion was earmarked for trips for the president and vice president’s aides, implying a potential N30 billion expenditure by the principals themselves. He questioned the substantial allocations for trips, renovations, and digitization of offices, emphasizing the need for prioritizing resources.

Obi highlighted that the combined budget for transportation and office renovations, totaling about N65 billion, exceeded the N57 billion recently allocated by the Senate for the Police Trust Fund to enhance security for over 200 million people. He urged a reconsideration of these budget allocations, proposing alternative uses for the funds.

Suggesting a pragmatic approach, Obi envisioned utilizing the funds to address critical issues such as the insufficient number of operational vehicles in over 5000 police stations nationwide. He advocated for supporting local manufacturers like Innoson, proposing the purchase of 2500 4×4 trucks at a discounted rate of N25 million each, amounting to N62.5 billion. The remaining funds, according to Obi, could triple police officers’ fuel allowances, addressing the pressing issue of inadequate resources for police vehicles.
