During an inspection tour led by Lars Richter, Managing Director of Julius Berger, Minister of Works David Umahi expressed satisfaction with the project’s quality. Umahi commended both the previous and current administrations for their collaborative efforts in bringing the bridge to completion, describing it as “impeccable, very beautiful, and well completed.”

Umahi highlighted plans to address the lighting issue on the bridge, ensuring permanent lighting, particularly at night. He announced the deployment of a solar solution in the coming weeks to eliminate the need for diesel consumption during nighttime.

The minister emphasized ongoing efforts to complete the two interchanges, diverting traffic away from Asaba town and Onitsha town. He also mentioned plans to develop service stations, filling stations, restaurants, supermarkets, and other facilities along the route, inspired by models seen in Western countries.

In terms of security, Umahi assured the public by announcing plans to install Closed-Circuit Television (CCTV) cameras and deploy security personnel for quick assistance.

Lars Richter, Managing Director of Julius Berger, described the event as a technical handover following the project’s inauguration by the former administration. He emphasized that Julius Berger completed the work on time and delivered the highest quality.

Bede Obioha, Director of Bridges Design and Construction, South, Federal Ministry of Works, urged residents around the second Niger Bridge to help secure installed and upcoming facilities. He commended the efforts of the ministry’s staff and contractors, encouraging road users and residents to adhere to traffic rules.
