Alausa highlighted the role of communities in shaping a relevant and people-centric HIV/AIDS response. The minister unveiled policy documents, including guidelines for viral hepatitis treatment, materials for prevention of mother-to-child transmission, and HIV self-testing, aiming to reduce disease spread and manage its impact.
Dr Adebobola Bashorun, the National Coordinator of the National AIDS, Viral Hepatitis and STIs Control Programme, provided an update on HIV epidemics, noting a decline in annual infections and AIDS-related deaths. Despite progress, challenges persist, with some individuals remaining undiagnosed, particularly children. Efforts to identify and initiate early treatment for these cases are crucial.

While acknowledging foreign partners’ contributions, he urged the federal government to prioritize domestic funding for HIV/AIDS activities.

Wike Warns: Illegal Structures on Embassy Land Will Be Demolished.
The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has condemned the construction of buildings on land allocated to foreign embassies in Katampe Extension, Abuja, describing them as illegal.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
Speaking on Friday during a tour of ongoing infrastructure projects across the FCT, Wike said the unauthorized structures would be demolished.
During the inspection, the minister visited several roads and projects, including the route linking Wuse to the Central Area, a road near the Body of Benchers complex, and the Tungan-Madaki road off the airport corridor. He expressed confidence that many of the projects would be completed ahead of the third anniversary of President Bola Tinubu’s administration.
On the illegal constructions, Wike explained that the plots were originally allocated on March 18, 2008, to various diplomatic missions for residential use. However, an illegal developer seized the land and began construction without approval from the Federal Capital Development Authority (FCDA).
“This land was allocated to various embassies in 2008. Someone just took over and started developing it without FCDA approval. We cannot allow this kind of land invasion to continue,” he said.
The affected diplomatic missions include Thailand, Bulgaria, Syria, Somalia, Serbia and Montenegro, Japan, Austria, Switzerland, Senegal, and the Palestine Liberation Organisation. Part of the land had also been reserved for a 132/133KV power station for the Power Holding Company of Nigeria.
Wike stated that the FCTA has directed the Department of Development Control to demolish all illegal structures and restore the land to its original purpose. “I have instructed that every building on this land be brought down,” he said, adding that the embassies would be formally notified to take possession of their plots.
The minister also revealed that the suspected developer had been arrested and would face prosecution. “The man has been arrested, and the police are investigating. He will be charged in court soon,” Wike said.

Ogun PDP Chair Rejects Dissolution, Says Party Will Stay Intact Until 2028.
The Ogun State Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Abayomi Tella, has affirmed that the state executive committee remains intact and will serve its full tenure until 2028.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
Tella made the statement on Friday in response to reports of the alleged dissolution of the Ogun State Executive Committee, describing the move as an attempt to create discord within the party.
Earlier, the National Working Committee (NWC) announced the dissolution of the state executive and appointed a 22-member caretaker committee, to be chaired by Ajayi Abayomi with Taiwo Shote as secretary, for 30 days pending the election of a new committee. This was confirmed in a statement by NWC national publicity secretary, Jungudo Muhammed.
Responding, Tella emphasized that the executive members elected on September 24, 2024, remain the only legitimate body recognized by the National Executive Committee (NEC) of the party. He assured the public that no dissolution has taken place and that the executives will remain active, participating in the 2027 elections.
“The current PDP executives in Ogun State were elected on September 24, 2024. Under Section 47, Subsection 1 of the party constitution, they have a four-year tenure, of which only a year and a few months have passed. Section 58, Subsection 1 (paragraphs A–N) outlines infractions that could warrant action, and no such violations have occurred,” Tella said.
He added, “We have maintained peace in the party. Politics is a period where many things happen, but to our members in Ogun State, we assure you that the executives remain intact. We will contest the 2027 elections and emerge victorious.”
Tella also commended the national leadership for its reconciliation efforts, noting that sacrifices are necessary for the betterment of the party.
