PDP Southwest’s Publicity Secretary, Chief Sanya Atofarati, issued a press statement in Ado Ekiti, challenging Governor Biodun Oyebanji to probe Fayemi over the alleged N20 billion “failed project.” Atofarati warned the governor to take action within 14 days or face public backlash. The PDP also called on anti-graft agencies, notably the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), to initiate an investigation.

Atofarati emphasized, “We are unapologetic in our demand for the probe of the failed airport project,” highlighting the substantial cost and suggesting alternative uses for the funds that could benefit the state.

In contrast, APC’s State Publicity Secretary, Segun Dipe, defended the project, asserting that the allocated funds were judiciously utilized for the state’s development. Dipe questioned the necessity of probing Fayemi and the airport project, arguing that the allegations had likely been presented to the EFCC, which found them baseless.

Dipe stated, “The thing is – was the money used for the way the government wanted it used, yes. Will the airport be for the better use of Ekiti State people – yes.” He urged the PDP to be patient and wait for their turn in governance if they had alternative plans for the funds.

Nigeria–US Coalition Slams US Lawmaker Over Call To Sack Matawalle.

A coalition of Nigerians in the United States has criticised remarks by US lawmaker Kimberly Daniels calling for the removal of Minister of State for Defence, Bello Matawalle, describing her position as ill-informed and detached from Nigeria’s security realities.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

News reports that Daniels made the call in a Facebook post, citing a recent security assessment report which she said raised concerns about Matawalle’s performance and past tenure as governor of Zamfara State. She urged a leadership review within Nigeria’s defence ministry.

In response, the Nigerian-American Coalition for Strategic Stability said the comments risk undermining Nigeria’s sovereignty and misrepresent the complexity of the country’s security challenges.

In a statement signed by its convener, Dr. Maxwell Akarachi, the group argued that insecurity in parts of the country stems from deep-rooted structural issues, cross-border criminal activity, and evolving threats, rather than the actions of a single official.

The coalition said it was concerning that a foreign lawmaker would take such a stance without fully understanding ongoing security efforts, adding that Nigeria has recorded some progress under Matawalle’s watch, including coordinated military operations and improved intelligence sharing.

It also warned against narratives it believes are aimed at weakening public confidence in Nigeria’s defence institutions, stressing that such matters should be addressed through local legal and institutional channels rather than external commentary.

While acknowledging the need for accountability, the group urged that allegations against public officials be handled through due process, not international pressure campaigns.

The coalition further called on international partners to engage Nigeria with accuracy and respect, and urged citizens at home and abroad to support national institutions in the fight against insecurity.
