Obaseki emphasized that the anticipated IGR expansion would be fueled by leveraging the state’s comparative advantages and exploring opportunities in technology, culture, manufacturing, and agriculture, among other sectors.

He stated, “For the past seven years, we have focused on the economy, establishing modalities to create an economic revolution in Edo State. Our strategy has been to attract private investors to areas where we have a competitive edge. Government, in turn, acts as an enabler to stimulate business opportunities.”

Highlighting the impact of conscious investments on the local economy, Obaseki expressed confidence that the IGR would exceed N70 billion in the coming year. He pointed to projects such as the Gelegele Seaport and Enterprise Park as contributors to future revenue growth.

In addition to economic development, the governor outlined achievements in the agricultural sector, citing initiatives involving cassava, ethanol, and oil palm. He also revealed plans to launch about 60 shops in the Benin Mall, further fostering retail development.

Looking ahead, Obaseki envisions a future marked by organized infrastructure supporting private sector production. He also approved an amendment extending the lifespan of the 2025 budget from March 31 to June 30, 2026, to ensure completion of ongoing capital projects nationwide.

Under the 2026 fiscal plan, ₦4.799 trillion is set aside for statutory transfers, ₦15.8 trillion for debt servicing, ₦15.4 trillion for recurrent spending, while ₦32.2 trillion goes to capital projects—about half of the total budget.

The focus, according to the administration, is on infrastructure development, security, and growth-driven investments aimed at improving living standards.
