The Ningi Emirate Council in Bauchi State has swiftly revoked the traditional title of Kauran Ningi from former House of Representatives member, Salisu Zakari Ningi, effective immediately…CONTINUE READING....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

The Council cited Zakari’s criticism of the recently launched dual carriageway project in Ningi township, specifically the Bauchi–Ningi–Kano road, as posted on social media by State Governor Bala Mohammed, as a significant factor leading to his dethronement. Additionally, the council pointed out Zakari’s perceived lack of commitment to the Emirate’s development as a contributing factor.

In a letter dated November 17, 2023, written in Hausa and signed by Council Secretary Sulaiman Shehu Burra, the decision was communicated. The translated letter reads, “Warmest greetings and best wishes to you. After this salutation, I have been directed to inform you that His Royal Highness, the Emir of Ningi, in consultation with his Council, has removed from you your traditional title of Kauran Ningi effective today, Friday, 17th November, 2023.”

The letter further stated, “Consequently upon your lackadaisical attitude towards the development and growth of the Ningi Emirate. As well as condemning and rubbishing the developmental project the Emirate had yearned for over a long period in terms of a dual carriageway in Ningi township, the Bauchi – Ningi – Kano road, as heard in the social media.”

The controversy surrounding the award of the 11-kilometer Ningi-Gudduba township road project at a cost of over N10.3 billion by the Bauchi State government was also noted. Zakari was among those questioning the project’s cost.

In response to his removal, Zakari expressed gratitude for his past title but vowed to address the reasons behind his removal at a later time. In a Facebook post in Hausa, he wrote, “Today, Friday, 17/11/2023, HRH Emir of Ningi and his Emirate Council removed me from the title of Kauran Ningi. The reason for the decision, as contained in the letter to that effect, I am challenging them. I will speak on that at a later and appropriate time. However, I am very appreciative of HRH, the Emir of Ningi, for finding me worthy and agreeing to honour me with the title of Kauran Ningi since 2007.” He concluded by requesting to be addressed simply as “Malam Salisu.”

Nigeria–US Coalition Slams US Lawmaker Over Call To Sack Matawalle.

Published

A coalition of Nigerians in the United States has criticised remarks by US lawmaker Kimberly Daniels calling for the removal of Minister of State for Defence, Bello Matawalle, describing her position as ill-informed and detached from Nigeria’s security realities.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

News reports that Daniels made the call in a Facebook post, citing a recent security assessment report which she said raised concerns about Matawalle’s performance and past tenure as governor of Zamfara State. She urged a leadership review within Nigeria’s defence ministry.

In response, the Nigerian-American Coalition for Strategic Stability said the comments risk undermining Nigeria’s sovereignty and misrepresent the complexity of the country’s security challenges.

In a statement signed by its convener, Dr. Maxwell Akarachi, the group argued that insecurity in parts of the country stems from deep-rooted structural issues, cross-border criminal activity, and evolving threats, rather than the actions of a single official.

The coalition said it was concerning that a foreign lawmaker would take such a stance without fully understanding ongoing security efforts, adding that Nigeria has recorded some progress under Matawalle’s watch, including coordinated military operations and improved intelligence sharing.

It also warned against narratives it believes are aimed at weakening public confidence in Nigeria’s defence institutions, stressing that such matters should be addressed through local legal and institutional channels rather than external commentary.

While acknowledging the need for accountability, the group urged that allegations against public officials be handled through due process, not international pressure campaigns.

The coalition further called on international partners to engage Nigeria with accuracy and respect, and urged citizens at home and abroad to support national institutions in the fight against insecurity.
