During a press conference held in Yenagoa, the state capital on Wednesday, the observer groups, operating under the umbrella of the Coalition of the INEC Accredited Observer Groups for Credible and Transparent Elections, commended INEC’s efficient logistics planning in the distribution of both sensitive and non-sensitive electoral materials to various polling locations. They highlighted the timely arrival of materials and the successful implementation of the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS).
Romanus Agu, the Chairman of the Coalition, along with Secretary Sani Bashir and other coalition members, conveyed the group’s recommendations. They specifically praised the people of Bayelsa State for their peaceful behavior before, during, and after the recent election.
In their statement, the coalition called on political stakeholders to uphold the peace accord endorsed by all parties or pursue legal redress and respect the outcomes of judicial processes. Additionally, they urged INEC, political parties, and other stakeholders to intensify voter sensitization and awareness to reduce voter apathy.
The coalition’s statement read: “We, the coalition of the INEC accredited observer groups for credible and transparent elections, express our opinion on the recently concluded off-cycle elections in Bayelsa state. Our 235 observers deployed across the 8 local government areas adhered to Nigerian laws and INEC guidelines for election observers.”
