The Kwara State Police Command assembled a dedicated team of operatives from various units, tasked with combing the forests in the identified areas, apprehending criminals, recovering arms and ammunition, rescuing victims, and eliminating criminal elements.
The operation, initiated on November 1, 2023, has yielded positive outcomes, including the arrest of seven suspected kidnappers: Umaru Mohammodu (aka Yellow), Mohammodu Mohammodu (aka Kerimi), Garuba Abubakar, Iliasu Usman, Ibraheem Abubakar, Usman Haruna, and their informant, Umaru Bello.
During a search of their hideout, a cash sum of N1,736,000 was recovered, as disclosed by Commissioner of Police Victor Olaiya in a statement issued in Ilorin on Saturday.
He highlighted that this concerted effort led to a temporary reduction in criminal activities until the incident on November 10, 2023, at around 8:30 pm.
The Commissioner of Police emphasized that the command’s team is actively pursuing the criminals. The seven suspects have been arraigned in court and are currently remanded in prison custody, with ongoing efforts to apprehend those responsible for the recent unfortunate incident.
