Between 2021 and 2023, the utilization of modern contraceptives in all 13 local government areas of Nasarawa State resulted in preventing approximately 4,213 unsafe abortions. Dr. Ibitoye Segun, the Senior Learning Advisor of the Society for Family Health (SFH), shared this achievement during a one-day Adolescents 360 mid-project dissemination training in Lafia, the capital of Nasarawa State. Moreover, it was revealed that this initiative helped avert 54 maternal deaths and 228 child deaths within the state.

This training focused on Adolescent Sexual and Reproductive Health (ASRH) programming and was organized through a collaboration between the state Ministry of Health and Primary Health Care Development Agency (NSPHCDA) and SFH. The success can be attributed to the use of contraceptives under the A360 Amplify Project, which is being implemented in the state.

Dr. Segun highlighted the Matasa Matan Arewa program under the A360 project, designed to create a supportive environment for married adolescent girls aged 15 to 19, granting them access to comprehensive sexual and reproductive health services.

Representing Dr. Omokhudu Idogho, the Managing Director of SFH, Mrs. Aisha Dadi, Project Director for Paediatrics and Adolescent Programmes, shared that the meeting served as a platform to disseminate learnings, accomplishments, successes, and insights gained from the A360 Amplify Project. The A360 initiative, funded by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation and the Children Investment Fund Foundation, has been successful in breaking down barriers to access and use of modern contraceptives by married adolescent girls aged 15 to 19.

Dr. Gaza Gomna, the state Commissioner for Health, represented by Dr. Damian Ali, the Permanent Secretary of the ministry, emphasized the importance of educating and mentoring adolescents about their sexual reproductive health and overall well-being as a means to secure their future. He reaffirmed the state government’s dedication to building upon the achievements of the A360 project.

Additionally, Dr. Simon Istifanus, the Executive Secretary of the Nasarawa State Health Insurance Agency (NASHIA), advocated for a collaboration with SFH to incorporate Adolescent Sexual Reproductive Health services into the state’s health insurance scheme, ensuring universal coverage.

The Social Democratic Party (SDP) presidential candidate, Prince Adewole Adebayo, has declared that those in power are completely unconcerned about the widespread poverty, insecurity, and economic hardship plaguing the country, viewing the very existence of ordinary citizens as a nuisance.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Adebayo made this statement on Wednesday in Abuja, asserting that the welfare of the people is the least of the government’s priorities. According to him, leaders in government are primarily focused on siphoning public funds for personal luxury rather than addressing national crises.

  • A Call to Action for Youths: Urging Nigerian youths to unite ahead of the 2027 presidential election, he stressed that citizens now have the power of the ballot—enabled by technological advancements that prevent old methods of rigging—to oust President Bola Tinubu’s administration and rescue the nation.
