Just In: Governor Eno Grants N450 Million Counterpart Funding For Women’s Project....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Governor Umo Eno of Akwa Ibom State has granted approval for the allocation of N450 million as counterpart funding for the Nigeria For Women (NFW) project, a World Bank initiative aimed at empowering rural women.

Eno made this announcement during a meeting with a World Bank delegation led by Mr. Shudham Chaudhury, the country director for Nigeria, held at the Government House in Uyo.

The governor reiterated his administration’s commitment to collaborating in key areas such as agriculture and rural development. He explained that this initiative is aligned with his administration’s ‘ARISE Agenda’ blueprint.

“Many of the programs, as you rightly pointed out, align with our ‘ARISE Agenda.’ We are eager to collaborate to ensure that we continue to expand as necessary. Currently, agriculture is the primary focus of the blueprint. We can work with the World Bank to enhance agricultural potential and ensure food security in the state,” he pledged.

Governor Eno also expressed the state’s determination to address gaps in existing projects and explore additional areas of partnership with the global financial institution to deliver sustainable development benefits to the people of Akwa Ibom.

He said, “This visit has shed light on World Bank projects in Akwa Ibom, and I must admit that in my five months in office, this is the first time I have received such a briefing on World Bank projects that we are involved in. Regarding the N450 million that was meant to be contributed, I have given my approval, and I can assure you that we will disburse it within the next week.”

In response, Mr. Shudham Chaudhury explained that his visit aimed to share knowledge with the state and provide an overview of the World Bank’s efforts and support for Nigeria’s development at both the national and sub-national levels.

He emphasized the World Bank’s stance on responsibility for progress and addressing development challenges, which, he asserted, would uplift Nigerians out of poverty. However, he noted that this achievement would largely depend on governance and leadership at the state level.
