The organizers of the Africa International Film Festival (AFRIFF) have unveiled an exciting lineup of events for its 12th edition, with the aim of promoting indigenous films in the global market.
The week-long festival will commence on the evening of Sunday, November 5, with the exclusive premiere of the movie “ORAH,” directed by Lonzo Nzekwe. The festival is scheduled to run from November 5 to 11, 2023.
The closing night will feature the highly anticipated premiere of the inspirational movie “Breath of Life,” directed by BB Shashore and produced by Eku Edewor.
During a media event held at the Oriental Hotel in Lagos, Chioma Ude, the founder and director of AFRIFF, expressed the organizers’ commitment to enhancing the festival’s capacity to meet global expectations. This year’s theme, “Indigenous to Global 2.0,” builds on last year’s theme and focuses on capacity building and preparing the industry for the global market.
The festival will showcase a selection of notable films, including “Queen of Adire – A Story of Nike Davies Okundaye” by Titi Ogunfere and “Funmilayo Ransom-Kuti” by Bola Austen-Peters, among others.
The AFRIFF jury includes both local and international members, headed by Stephen Dr. Love, and features prominent figures from the Nollywood industry, such as Kate Henshaw and Desmond Elliot.
The 12th edition of AFRIFF aims to discover new talents, create opportunities, and screen hundreds of films for free. The festival intends to strengthen its position to take African stories made by Africans to the world.
This edition will introduce new award categories sponsored by MTN Nigeria, including the Honouree Award, Viewer’s Choice category, and Fan Favorite Award. These awards will be presented at the AFRIFF Globe Awards Night on November 11, 2023.
The festival will also hold the N.E.F.T.I. (NEFT Emerging Film Talent International) competition in collaboration with LG Electronics, offering a prize of $5000 to young talents.
AFRIFF seeks to celebrate the diverse and vibrant African film industry while emphasizing the importance of collaboration, innovation, and investment in the region’s cinema.
The 2023 edition of AFRIFF is sponsored by various organizations, including the Lagos State Government, MTN, Prime Video, and many others.
AFRIFF, conceived by Chioma Ude, has become a renowned platform for showcasing African and diaspora cinema, promoting valuable exchanges of ideas, production connections, and business relationships in the industry. It continues to contribute to the growth and recognition of Africa’s film industry on the global stage.

Atiku Opens Up On ADC 2027 Game Plan, Says Consensus Candidate Comes First.
Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has said the African Democratic Congress (ADC) will first pursue a consensus arrangement before considering a primary election for its 2027 presidential ticket.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
Atiku made this known during an interview on Arise Television on Wednesday while discussing the party’s leadership and strategy ahead of the next general election.
He said he is open to backing a consensus candidate if that becomes the party’s collective decision, stressing that such support should not be interpreted as stepping aside.
“It is not about stepping aside, but whether I am willing to support, and yes, I will,” Atiku said.
According to him, the ADC’s first priority is to build internal unity and reach an agreement among stakeholders before considering a competitive primary process.
“Our first option will be to work out a consensus. If that doesn’t happen, then of course we will explore other options. And yes, I will support whoever eventually emerges,” he stated.
Atiku also expressed confidence in the political experience within the party, saying he believes a consensus is achievable and may make a full-scale primary contest unnecessary.
“That remains our preferred path. We will go for primaries if consensus fails, but I honestly do not expect it to get to that stage because we are dealing with mature and experienced politicians,” he added.
His comments come amid growing political consultations and coalition talks as parties begin to position themselves ahead of the 2027 general elections.
