PTAD Executive Secretary Unveils Ongoing Anti-Corruption Efforts Amid Rumors Of Pensioner Protests
PTAD Executive Secretary Unveils Ongoing Anti-Corruption Efforts Amid Rumors Of Pensioner Protests....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Dr. Chioma Ejikeme, the Executive Secretary of the Pension Transitional Arrangement Directorate (PTAD), has revealed that the verification exercise conducted by PTAD, which led to the removal of more than 50,000 ghost pensioners from the payroll and the rectification of inflated pension benefits manipulated by corrupt individuals within some government agency pension offices, has encountered challenges since her reappointment.
She disclosed that corruption, which had been significantly reduced under the old pension scheme (Defined Benefit Scheme – DBS), is attempting a resurgence, especially following her reappointment. Ejikeme emphasized that corrupt elements within the pension system are determined to make her office unbearable, hence the rumors of planned pensioner protests.
Dr. Ejikeme noted that genuine pensioners are satisfied with PTAD’s efforts, as many who were wrongly removed from the payroll and replaced with fictitious pensioners by unscrupulous individuals have been reinstated, while others with underpaid benefits have received appropriate compensation.
She explained, “We deployed mobile verification to ensure all eligible pensioners are accurately recorded. This has enabled us to eliminate over 50,000 ghost pensioners from the system. We conducted two significant removals of ineligible individuals from the payroll of parastatal pensioners. The first was done in 2019 in collaboration with the Nigerian Interbank Settlement System to verify individuals with valid BVN and those without. After these removals, we established a complaint resolution channel for pensioners with valid BVN to address their concerns. As a result, thousands were reinstated on the payroll, and we have been saving significant sums daily by not paying pensions to those with invalid documentation.”
Furthermore, through the verification process, PTAD has developed a centralized database that includes pensioners’ personal information, biometrics, and career documents. This pioneering database within the DBS history places a strong emphasis on maintaining its integrity.
The Nigerian Union of Pensioners (NUP) has commended the reappointment of Dr. Chioma Ejikeme as the Executive Secretary of PTAD by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. The NUP clarified that the reappointment was based on merit, recognizing Ejikeme’s leadership and professional approach to her role over the last four years. The NUP also disassociated itself from any potential protests against her reappointment, underscoring their support for her contributions to the welfare of pensioners across Nigeria.
