A group known as Nigeria Accountability Monitors (NAM) has strongly criticized the Coalition of Nigerian Legal Practitioners for demanding the removal of the NNPC GCEO, Mele Kyari. The group has also accused some recently retired senior and management staff of the oil company of colluding with “idle lawyers and other hired individuals” to target NNPC’s Mele Kyari and another top executive, Umar Ajiya.
In a press statement signed by NAM’s Chairman, Sabiu Ibrahim, the lawyers’ coalition, led by Adesina Bernard, is described as “mischief-makers following the agenda of a few recently retired NNPC officials in a restructuring exercise aimed at repositioning the company.”
Ibrahim’s statement labels the anti-Kyari lawyers’ group as “partisans working against a highly proactive management team led by Kyari and Ajiya, which has been exposing illegal oil refineries run by major culprits in the country.”
The group questions the lawyers’ coalition, asking whether they stand with oil thieves and mischievous individuals who profited from working under the Kyari/Ajiya management team but recently retired to make way for a legitimate succession. NAM challenges them to explain their opposition to the transparency in managing the NNPC, where all Nigerians are now considered equal stakeholders.
NAM has given the Coalition of Lawyers a 48-hour ultimatum to clarify whether any reform policies from the Kyari/Ajiya management team are unnecessary for Nigeria’s economic growth and development. If not, they are advised to “cease their complaints” and “stop creating a crisis where there is none.”
The group has also challenged the lawyers to name someone within the NNPC at present who, in their view, possesses the transparency and courage to break the company free from its questionable past, other than Kyari and Ajiya.
Finally, NAM warns the lawyers that they will no longer remain passive while ethnic agendas promoted by oil thieves attempt to unjustifiably attack the Kyari/Ajiya management team. The group is fully prepared to defend the Kyari/Ajiya reforms and put an end to media attacks with regional undertones.

The NCAA’s Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, Michael Achimugu, announced the sanctions on his personal handle, stating the fine was imposed due to RwandAir’s failure to resolve the complaint within the legally required timeframe. According to the aviation regulator, the airline did not address the issue in line with Nigerian consumer protection provisions, specifically violating Part 19 of the NCAA Regulations 2023, which mandates remedies for baggage-related issues.
The NCAA emphasized that this action is part of its ongoing efforts to enforce passenger rights and ensure airlines operating in Nigeria respond to complaints promptly. This penalty follows a recent warning from the NCAA that airlines failing to process passenger refunds within the required regulatory period would face sanctions. The authority has previously sanctioned numerous domestic and international carriers, including Royal Air Maroc and Air Peace, for similar regulatory breaches.

Daramola, in a statement on Friday, September 11, 2026, cited a binding Federal High Court judgment (Maxwell Uwaifor v. IG, delivered by Justice Hyeladzira Nganjiwa in March 2025), which affirmed this right. The ruling also mandated that officers display visible identification and prohibited them from seizing phones or deleting footage. Daramola argued that this aligns with Section 39 of the 1999 Constitution (freedom of expression and information), provided the recording does not obstruct lawful duties. He added that police officers acting lawfully should have “nothing to fear.”
Ojo agreed, emphasizing that recordings promote transparency, good conduct, and are a vital tool for gathering and preserving evidence of misconduct. He credited such footage with facilitating the discipline of officers who might otherwise deny wrongdoing. However, Ojo urged citizens to prioritize personal safety, warning that some officers might react violently to being filmed. He advised the public to assess the situation before recording.
Olagunju acknowledged that the IGP might have legitimate concerns regarding privacy and safety. Nevertheless, he maintained that these concerns should not prevent citizens from recording public officials, including police, who are derelict in their duties, arguing that such recordings are essential for accountability.
