The Ondo State Security Network Agency, also known as the Amotekun Corps, has reported that more than 20 commercial motorcyclists, commonly referred to as Okada riders, lost their lives to criminals within a three-week period in the state.
The Commander of the Amotekun Corps in the state, Akogun Adetunji Adeleye, shared this information with the press, emphasizing that the criminals targeted the Okada riders in attempts to steal their motorcycles.
Adeleye expressed concern about the alarming rate at which commercial motorcyclists have become victims of criminal activities, prompting the need for intervention.

Furthermore, the Amotekun Commander revealed that a significant number of these attacks occurred during the night in various areas of the state.
In response to this challenge, the security outfit has initiated the enforcement of a ban on commercial motorcyclists’ operations between 6:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m.
Adeleye also noted that unregistered vehicles and tinted vehicles without police permits operating on state roads would face impoundment.
“The ban from 6:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. for the use of Okada remains in force as established by the government. Motorcycles that are not on essential duties are not allowed to ply the streets unless you are on essential duties. In the last three weeks, we have recorded over 20 Okada riders being killed. Additionally, their motorcycles were stolen. Riding an Okada at night is even risky. We appeal to Okada riders, if you have worked for 12 hours, please rest so that we can more easily identify criminals.”

Presided over by Justice Salem Ibrahim, the court convicted the defendants following their guilty pleas to charges brought by the Federal Government, which included withholding information regarding the masterminds behind the attack. Additionally, the accused admitted to being members of Darul Salam, an organization linked to the banned terrorist group Ansaru.
During the proceedings, two of the defendants—Abdulrazak Umar and Shamsudin Adamu—further confessed to utilizing a WhatsApp group named “The Oneness of Allah is the Foundation of Peace” to train and incite members toward acts of terrorism. Furthermore, Abdulrazak Umar pleaded guilty to a separate charge of conducting unauthorized illegal gold mining activities along streams in the Chaza area located within Niger State’s Suleja Local Government Area.
