President Bola Tinubu has established a Constitutional Review Committee with the aim of executing extensive reforms within the Nigeria Police Force (NPF). Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State disclosed this information while speaking with State House correspondents following the Nigeria Police Council meeting on Tuesday.
Mohammed outlined the committee’s composition, which includes the Minister of Police Affairs, Ibrahim Geidam; National Security Adviser (NSA), Nuhu Ribadu; the Chairman of the Police Service Commission (PSC), Solomon Arase; and Governor of Kwara and Chairman of the Nigerian Governors’ Forum (NGF), AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq.
He stated, “The confirmation of the IGP prompted further discussions on the Nigeria Police Force, and the President has formed a special committee to address all the deficiencies in Nigeria’s 1999 constitution with the goal of achieving unity and synergy, improving technology and bolstering the manpower of the Nigerian Police Force.”
“The committee is composed of the Minister of Police Affairs, NSA, the Chairman of the PSC, and the Chairman of the NGF. They will collaborate to ensure the reform of the Nigeria Police.”
Governor Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State also spoke during the council meeting and highlighted that no significant reforms had been undertaken in the police force since its inception in 1861. He emphasized that the committee’s objective is to generate ideas that will result in transformative reforms for the new Nigeria police force.
Governor Abiodun noted, “The newly confirmed IGP is well-prepared, with a rich and diverse CV, extensive experience, and a strong intellectual and practical background. He addressed the council on the state of policing in Nigeria, emphasizing the need for technology-driven and community-based policing, as well as the necessity to allocate the required budgetary resources for community-based policing, which has proven to be highly effective. Funding-related issues also came up, and this committee of four to five individuals will address these reform-related matters. We observed that there have been no meaningful reforms since the establishment of the Nigeria Police Force.”

Atiku Opens Up On ADC 2027 Game Plan, Says Consensus Candidate Comes First.
Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has said the African Democratic Congress (ADC) will first pursue a consensus arrangement before considering a primary election for its 2027 presidential ticket.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
Atiku made this known during an interview on Arise Television on Wednesday while discussing the party’s leadership and strategy ahead of the next general election.
He said he is open to backing a consensus candidate if that becomes the party’s collective decision, stressing that such support should not be interpreted as stepping aside.
“It is not about stepping aside, but whether I am willing to support, and yes, I will,” Atiku said.
According to him, the ADC’s first priority is to build internal unity and reach an agreement among stakeholders before considering a competitive primary process.
“Our first option will be to work out a consensus. If that doesn’t happen, then of course we will explore other options. And yes, I will support whoever eventually emerges,” he stated.
Atiku also expressed confidence in the political experience within the party, saying he believes a consensus is achievable and may make a full-scale primary contest unnecessary.
“That remains our preferred path. We will go for primaries if consensus fails, but I honestly do not expect it to get to that stage because we are dealing with mature and experienced politicians,” he added.
His comments come amid growing political consultations and coalition talks as parties begin to position themselves ahead of the 2027 general elections.
