Nigerians React As Peter Obi Criticizes N160 Million Vehicle Allocation For Lawmakers Amidst Citizen Hardships....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

The 2023 presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), Peter Obi, stressed the importance of establishing a corruption-free political system in Nigeria. He made this statement while visiting the home of the late constitutional lawyer and former Secretary General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, Prof. Ben Nwabueze, in Ajao Estate, Lagos State, to offer his condolences.

In a passionate speech, Obi expressed his deep concern about the prevalent political corruption in Nigeria and called for a return to a parliamentary system of government. He praised the late legal luminary for his consistent advocacy for a better Nigeria, highlighting his reputation for honesty and dedication to the nation.

The former Anambra State governor argued that real change in Nigeria could only be achieved by dismantling the criminal networks established by politicians. He also criticized the allocation of N160 million for each federal lawmaker to purchase vehicles, deeming such expenditures unjustifiable at a time when many citizens were suffering.

Obi stated, “Constituency projects are unethical, and they have been accepted due to the corruption within the executive branch. We have seen a normalization of recklessness and misconduct in our culture. It is imperative that we revert to a parliamentary system of government, where our elected representatives can directly address our concerns.”

Obi expressed his dissatisfaction with the current presidential system, where presidents often delegate responsibilities to their aides, creating a disconnect from accountability. He called for the elimination of the prevailing culture of criminality, asserting, “Individuals who already own cars are being given vehicles worth N160 million. People are enduring hardships, and it is crucial to exercise restraint. Elected officials should be held accountable to the citizens.”

Reflecting on his relationship with the late Prof. Nwabueze, Obi praised his unwavering commitment to advocating for constitutional amendments and addressing societal issues.

In a related development, Governor Charles Soludo of Anambra State paid tribute to Prof. Nwabueze, recognizing his significant contributions to constitutional law and his steadfast commitment to justice and equity. He expressed the collective grief of the government and the people over the loss of a prominent figure whose legacy would continue to inspire future generations.
