House Of Representatives Takes Action: N200 Billion For 2023 Census Under Investigation....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

The National Population Commission (NPC) is on the brink of a comprehensive inquiry into the funds allocated for the postponed 2023 population and housing census.

During a session on Wednesday, the House of Representatives, the lower chamber of the National Assembly, passed a resolution to scrutinize the allocation of over two hundred billion Naira for the “unsuccessful” Census, following a motion put forward by Honourable Dominic Okafor, who brought the expended funds to the attention of the lawmakers.

Former President Muhammadu Buhari had previously sanctioned the delay of the 2023 Population and Housing Census, originally slated for May 3 to 7, with the rescheduling left to the discretion of the incoming administration. The decision came after a meeting involving Buhari, certain members of the Federal Executive Council, the Chairman of the National Population Commission (NPC), Nasir Isa-Kwarra, and his team.

The lawmakers, however, expressed concerns about conducting the census this year due to security issues.

As a result, the NPC, which serves as a primary data collection agency for the Federal Republic of Nigeria, responsible for gathering, organizing, analyzing, and disseminating data regarding the nation’s populace and economy, will now be called upon to provide answers regarding the financial resources allocated for the planned Census.
