In Kwara State’s capital, Ilorin, a local barber has been apprehended by the state police command in connection with the reported death of a young woman during a sexual encounter on Monday.
The police, confirming the incident on Tuesday, disclosed that they had initiated an inquiry into the circumstances surrounding the lady’s demise.
It has been alleged that the young woman passed away following a sexual encounter with her boyfriend in a guest house in Ilorin.
Investigations have revealed that the incident occurred on Monday at a guest house situated in the Temidire community, specifically in the Offa Garage area of the metropolis.
The middle-aged man, who is said to own a barbershop, had gone to the guest house for a leisurely outing with his girlfriend.
An unverified report from members of the community also suggested that the man may have consumed drugs in an attempt to impress his girlfriend before the situation took a tragic turn.
A source who spoke with Punch stated, “The girl was said to have become fatigued during the sexual encounter and later lost consciousness. It was at this point that she became incapacitated and subsequently passed away.”
The sources indicated that the man raised an alarm when the lady lost consciousness, which led to the intervention of guest house staff.
The young woman was swiftly transported to a nearby hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
Additionally, it was learned that after the guest house owner reported the incident to the Police ‘A’ Division in Ilorin, the middle-aged man was subsequently arrested.
The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Okasanmi Ajayi, confirmed the incident and stated, “The incident is true. The state police command has arrested the man involved, and a comprehensive investigation has commenced to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident.”

During a recent visit to Washington, D.C., Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), argued that the prevalence of election rigging in Nigeria is largely due to voters failing to actively defend their ballots. Obi emphasized that while candidates play a role in the process, credible outcomes ultimately depend on citizens remaining at their polling units to ensure votes are counted transparently. He criticized the “transactional” nature of Nigerian politics, suggesting that many voters prioritize other activities over the essential task of monitoring the electoral process.
