Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has pledged to counter any attempts to disrupt governance in the state through unwarranted impeachment proceedings. In a statement signed by his Senior Special Assistant, Media, Boniface Onyedi, the governor also officially acknowledged Edison Ehie as the new Speaker of the House of Assembly.
Ehie, who was removed from his position on Monday by a faction of 24 anti-Fubara lawmakers, was elected as the speaker by pro-Fubara legislators after a plenary session at the Government House. Governor Fubara assured the people of Rivers State that he is prepared to protect their interests and those of the state.
He emphasized that any attempts to impeach him must be based on justifiable reasons, and he called on his detractors to openly state the offenses for which they seek his impeachment.
Fubara noted the substantial support from the people of Rivers State in response to the impeachment plans, which reflects their readiness to safeguard the state’s interests. The governor reaffirmed his commitment to defending the state, protecting its residents, and ensuring they enjoy the benefits of democracy.
He encouraged Edison Ehie, representing Ahoada East Constituency II, to uphold the principles of law and the legislative process.
