Solomon Arase, the Chairman of the Police Service Commission (PSC), has called for a renewed commitment and a more inclusive approach in the fight against insecurity to achieve the desired outcomes. Arase emphasized the importance of this advice as Nigeria grapples with organized crimes and various forms of criminal activities.

Speaking at the International Symposium on countering organized crimes in Africa held in Abuja, Arase stressed the necessity of standing resolute against those who threaten “the sovereign integrity of the Nigerian State.” He underscored that no security agency can effectively fulfill its mandate without the support of the people.

Arase, represented by Brighten Saagwe, the Director of Planning, Research, and Statistics of the Commission, stated, “Our determination must be unwavering because our faith rests in the unity of Nigeria.

He further pointed out that security agencies must adapt to the evolving security landscape, strategize, and adjust their tactics to address the escalating insecurity challenge in the country. Arase emphasized that, within the bounds of the law, necessary measures should be taken to ensure citizens’ security, as terrorism and crime spare no one, regardless of their socio-economic status or education.

Arase appealed for a collective effort in providing hope to the vulnerable and protection to the defenseless, asserting that the fight against organized crime is a supreme task for their generation.

He also highlighted the adverse impact of organized crime on a nation’s economic development and stressed the need to combat it effectively. Arase concluded by emphasizing the importance of synergy among security agencies and prompt sharing of criminal intelligence in the battle against organized crime. He recommended the adoption of a combination of both kinetic and non-kinetic approaches for more effective and results-oriented security management.

Furthermore, Arase assured that the Police Service Commission under his leadership would collaborate with other government agencies in the fight against organized crime in Nigeria.

Human rights lawyer Frank Tietie has criticized the nomination and subsequent confirmation of Professor Abayomi Fasina, the former Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University, Oye-Ekiti, as a non-career ambassador designate.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

  • Prior to his confirmation, a coalition of civil society organizations protested at the National Assembly on July 7, 2026, opposing Fasina’s nomination due to pending court cases involving allegations of sexual harassment, human rights violations, and victimization.

  • Despite these protests, the Nigerian Senate officially confirmed Fasina’s appointment as a non-career ambassador on Thursday.

Frank Tietie’s Position

  • During an interview on ARISE Television, Tietie argued that nominating an individual with such “baggage” was a mistake, emphasizing that ambassadors represent Nigeria in the same capacity as the President.

  • Tietie stated that the government should have sent the “right signals” by avoiding such controversial appointments, especially given the current state of governance.

  • He argued that even in the absence of a final court judgment, the allegations themselves have “tainted” Fasina’s reputation, and the Senate should have delayed the confirmation until the legal matters were resolved.

  • Tietie also suggested that the National Assembly’s decision overlooks significant social changes regarding how such allegations are now viewed by society.
