Breaking: Man Fatally Beats His Neighbor To Death Over Unpaid Video Game Repair Bill In Ogun State....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

In Ogun State, a man named Wasiu Oyekan has tragically caused the death of one of his neighbors, Ibrahim Lateef, following a dispute over N4,500. The incident occurred on Sunday near Kobiti Central Mosque, Kobiti, Abeokuta, the state’s capital, when the suspect allegedly struck Lateef in the neck, causing him to fall and hit his head on the ground.

The dispute arose from an incident in August when Oyekan accused the deceased’s son and another boy of damaging his PS video game. Oyekan had requested N9,000 to repair the game, of which the boy’s 50-year-old father initially provided N4,500, with a promise to pay the remaining amount later.

The delay in settling the N4,500 balance led Oyekan to involve the police, who took the deceased’s son to the police station on Sunday. Lateef, upon learning of this, confronted Oyekan, inquiring about the reason for involving the police. During this confrontation, Oyekan allegedly delivered a fatal blow to Lateef’s neck, causing him to fall and suffer injuries to his head. Lateef began bleeding from his nose and ears, and he tragically passed away.

An eyewitness who preferred to remain anonymous reported the incident, stating that the suspect is currently in custody at the State Criminal Investigation Department, Police Headquarters in Eleweran, Abeokuta.

Lateef, also known as Tijuuku, leaves behind his mother, a wife caring for a two-month-old baby girl, his other children, and younger siblings. The victim’s elderly mother reportedly fainted upon receiving the news of her son’s death.

The Ogun State Police Command confirmed the incident, with the Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer, Omolola Odutola, directing inquiries to the Divisional Police Officer of Oke-Itoku, CSP Hadiza Abu Oganyi, under whose jurisdiction the incident occurred. The DPO acknowledged the incident, stating that she had transferred the case to the force headquarters on the day it occurred. She indicated that the dispute began when the deceased confronted Oyekan for involving the police regarding his child. The DPO mentioned her constraints in speaking to the press and noted that further details would be provided by the PPRO.

Strategic Partnership Details

  • Formal Agreement: The two agencies signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Friday, July 17, 2026, at the NDLEA headquarters.

  • Operational Integration: The partnership includes provisions for intelligence sharing, coordinated joint operations, officer capacity building, and the exchange of technical resources.

  • Joint Working Committee: A committee will be established to ensure the agreement translates into tangible operational results.

Rationale for Collaboration

  • Shared Criminal Networks: NDLEA Chairman, Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (Rtd), noted that criminal syndicates often engage in both narcotics trafficking and the piracy of creative works, using proceeds from one illicit activity to finance the other.

  • Economic and Social Impact: NCC Director-General, Dr. John Asein, emphasized that organized piracy is a major criminal enterprise that undermines Nigeria’s creative economy, destroys jobs, and weakens national security.

  • Intersecting Supply Chains: Both agencies identified that the same clandestine networks, transportation routes, and financial channels used for drug trafficking are frequently utilized to distribute pirated goods and launder criminal proceeds.

  • Inter-Agency Synergy: The leadership of both organizations highlighted the importance of moving away from isolated operations toward a collaborative model that leverages the specific expertise and intelligence capabilities of each agency.

The initiative aims to more effectively disrupt illegal supply chains, dismantle criminal structures, and protect both the creative sector and the general public from the influence of organized crime.
