The House of Representatives has processed a total of 1,810 bills, 300 motions, and 100 petitions since its commencement in June, marking a span of four months.
This information was revealed during the inaugural weekly briefing for parliamentary reporters, jointly conducted by the House Spokesperson, Hon. Akin Rotimi Jr., the Chairman of the Rules and Business Committee, Hon. Francis Waive, and the Chairman of the Committee on Public Petitions, Hon. Michael Etaba.
During the briefing, the House Spokesperson provided an overview of key developments within the Green Chamber over the past week. This included the presentation of two pivotal reports related to the Legislative Agenda and the Amendment of the House Standing Orders by the respective Chairpersons of the Ad-hoc Committees tasked with these responsibilities.
Rotimi noted the swearing-in of two new members, Zango Baba Abubakar (representing Yola North/Yola South/Girei Federal Constituency) and Magaji Jaafar Abubakar (representing Maiha/Mubi North/Mubi South Federal Constituency). Their induction followed recent Court of Appeal rulings on their election petitions.
Chairman of the Rules and Business Committee, Hon. Waive, reported that more than 1,800 bills have successfully passed their first reading, and the House has already passed 10 pieces of legislation. He highlighted the Nigeria Audit Service Bill’s passage as a significant milestone, as it repealed the Audit Ordinance of 1956.
