Nigerians React As Federal College Of Forestry In Ibadan Shuts Down Amidst Clash Between EFCC And Students....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

The administration of the Federal College of Forestry in Ibadan has taken the decisive step of temporarily closing the institution following a tumultuous confrontation between its staff and students and members of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). The tumultuous incident unfolded on Tuesday, when EFCC officials were purportedly confined by the students.
Addressing the event, Dele Oyewale, spokesperson for the EFCC, narrated, “Seven operatives from the Ibadan Zonal Command of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) engaged in a routine verification exercise of a surety, Azeez Kazeem Oluwakemi, on Tuesday, October 24, 2023. They were met with aggression and held captive by the staff and students of the Federal College of Forestry, situated in Idi-shin Estate, Ibadan, Oyo State.”
He went on to clarify that the EFCC officials were at the college to “validate the address and identity of Oluwakemi, who had pledged as a surety for Alakinde Khalid Kolawole, a suspected internet fraudster in the custody of the commission.” “For reasons not entirely clear, the students and staff of the college unleashed a frenzy of attacks on the EFCC personnel, who were acting within the boundaries of their authorized mission,” he added.
Dele emphasized, “This is despite the fact that the college community had been duly apprised of the EFCC team’s purpose. The Student Union President of the college, along with fellow students and some staff members, purportedly incited a violent confrontation with the EFCC operatives. Both main entrance gates to the college were obstructed with a vehicle believed to belong to one of the college’s lecturers. The bus transporting the operatives was damaged, while students and staff pelted the vehicle with stones and hazardous objects.”
According to Oyewale, it took a rescue team of seven EFCC operatives to secure the release of the personnel allegedly held captive by the crowd. He further asserted, “The commission wishes to reassure the public that it will continue to fulfill its obligations in accordance with its mandate and that unprovoked assaults on the commission’s staff will no longer be tolerated.”
In the wake of this confrontation, the college management, as stated in a circular dated October 25th, promptly mandated the suspension of all academic activities.
