In a recent court hearing, a retired Army Major General, Umaru Ibrahim Muhammed, took the stand as a witness and provided details about the brutal killing of General Idris Alkali. This incident occurred five years ago, and Major General Muhammed was assigned by the Nigerian Army to lead a search and rescue operation for General Alkali, who had gone missing.

During his testimony, Muhammed revealed that the gruesome murder of General Alkali took place in 2018 in Dura-Du village, Jos South local government of Plateau State. According to his account, the suspects responsible for the crime dismembered General Alkali’s body and buried him in a shallow grave.

He explained, “Late Gen Alkali left Abuja for Bauchi en route Jos in 2018, while on transit, he made the last call around Dura, Du village in Jos South. From that moment, his phone went off, and three days later, his family declared him missing on the 3rd of September 2018.”

Major General Muhammed, who was tasked with leading the search and rescue operation, described the extensive efforts made to locate General Alkali, his vehicle, and those responsible for his disappearance. The search included inspecting multiple mining ponds in the village, with a focus on a particular one, which resulted in some local resistance. However, the operation continued with the support of divers and fire service trucks.

The witness recounted the discovery of General Alkali’s Toyota Corolla in the pond, along with his uniform, shirt, shoe, and cap. The search extended to the point of finding other vehicles, including a bus and a Rover car, as well as various items submerged in the pond.

Major General Muhammed shared that a suspect eventually led the search team to a shallow grave where the culprits had initially buried General Alkali. Afterward, the body was moved to another location, referred to as “no man’s land.” The testimony indicated that the remains were eventually located in a village named Buchwet, situated 10 kilometers away from Dura-Du.

To confirm the identity of the recovered body, a renowned pathologist was consulted, and a thorough examination of the remains revealed that General Alkali had been brutally murdered. The pathologist uncovered evidence of the skull being sliced into two and various body parts being dismembered. The body’s x-ray matched the findings, confirming the identity.

The court also heard from the second witness, Major Arashinga Bulus, who is currently serving in the Nigerian Army in Abuja. He confirmed the arrest of 21 individuals in connection with the killing of General Alkali. The case has been adjourned to November 6th to hear additional witnesses.
