Just In: Ndi Imo Defenders Refused Calls From Governor Uzodinma To Withdraw From Re-Election Bid, Citing Imo State Charter Of Equity....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

A socio-cultural group known as the Ndi Imo Defenders has voiced their disagreement with opposition candidates’ demands that Governor Hope Uzodinma should abandon his re-election campaign in favor of Owerri Zone candidates ahead of the November 11 governorship election.

In a recent press statement, the group’s President, Stan Ezugu, expressed concerns that such a request could undermine the established Imo Charter of Equity, an accord among the state’s elders and stakeholders, which mandates the rotation of the governorship position among the three senatorial zones of Orlu, Okigwe, and Owerri, with each zone holding the office for eight years.

The Ndi Imo Defenders reminded the opposition candidates of the Imo Elders’ Council’s policy statement, which encouraged other governorship contenders in the November 2023 election to allow Governor Uzodimma to complete Orlu Zone’s eight-year term before Owerri Zone takes over, ensuring the seamless implementation of the policy.

Ezugu emphasized that the Imo State Charter of Equity is a vital political agreement designed to ensure equitable representation in the state’s governance. He stressed its significance for political stability, unity, and the overall well-being of the diverse population, asserting that no individual or group should be permitted to disrupt this novel policy.

The group commended Governor Uzodimma for endorsing the charter of equity, acknowledging its potential to bring much-needed development to the state. They called on Imolites to support Uzodimma’s second term to further solidify the charter’s principles and promote the state’s growth.

Furthermore, the Ndi Imo Defenders highlighted that Governor Uzodimma’s administration has not demonstrated favoritism in appointments or the distribution of essential amenities such as healthcare, education, and infrastructure, emphasizing his commitment to the shared prosperity agenda.

In conclusion, the group stressed the importance of upholding the Imo State Charter of Equity to foster fairness, unity, stability, and development within the state, warning against allowing the greed of a few individuals to erode the policy’s potential for the prosperity of Ndi Imo.
