During the operation, which occurred on Friday, the troops apprehended an individual identified as Mr. Chimezie Chukwu, also known as Biggi, who had escaped from the Jos Prison Break. Biggi was known to be involved in activities such as drug peddling, gunrunning, and armed robbery. The items recovered from him included six mobile phones, three mobile phone batteries, a Moniepoint POS machine, an ATM card, two packs of substances suspected to be cannabis, and a sum of One Hundred and Seven Thousand, Two Hundred and Eighty Naira. The suspect and recovered items are now in the custody of the Department of State Security for further investigation.
In a separate incident, troops from Sector 4 deployed at the Forward Operational Base in Okigwe, Imo State, encountered an identified member of IPOB/ESN riding a motorcycle during a checkpoint operation. The individual attempted to flee to evade arrest and, despite warnings to stop, continued to evade capture. Troops eventually opened fire, neutralizing the suspect. Items recovered from the scene included two live rounds of 7.62mm Special ammunition, an ITEL mobile phone, a small bag containing charms, the sum of Two Thousand Three Hundred Naira, and a Qlink motorcycle.
Additionally, troops from Sector 5 of Operation UDO KA II, acting on credible intelligence, conducted a raid operation on suspected IPOB/ESN camps in Ogbunka, Orumba South Local Government Area of Anambra State. Upon arrival, the camp had been abandoned by the group. Three abandoned Sport Utility Vehicles were recovered, consisting of two Toyota Highlanders and one Mercedes Benz ML 350. Efforts are underway to identify the owners of these vehicles.
The Joint Task Force Operation UDO KA II has called upon law-abiding citizens in the South-East region to provide timely, credible, and reliable information that can assist in combating the activities of these groups.
