Godbless Otubure, the Global President of Ready To Lead Africa, has sounded the alarm regarding the increasing violence in three states set to hold off-season governorship elections on November 11, 2023. Otubure expressed his concerns during a press conference held in Abuja, emphasizing the need to prevent potential violence during the governorship elections in Kogi, Bayelsa, and Imo states.

Otubure stated that the group is firmly committed to acting as a catalyst for change and refuses to be passive witnesses to the recurring threat of electoral violence in these states. Their unwavering dedication to building a peaceful and democratic society has led them to confront these critical issues head-on.
Citing troubling statistics ahead of the polls, Otubure pointed out that Kogi and Bayelsa States have experienced a distressing increase in electoral violence incidents, resulting in 10 tragic fatalities and 129 reported cases of violence. Kogi, in particular, accounts for 66.21% of these incidents, spreading across all its 21 Local Government Areas.
Equally concerning is Bayelsa, where there has been an alarming 66.7% surge in violence, with Yenagoa, Ekeremor, and Sagbama being the most affected areas.
In Imo State, the situation is even more severe, with higher levels of violence and election-related tension compared to Kogi and Bayelsa. It ranks among the top 10 most volatile states, following closely behind states like Lagos, Rivers, Akwa-Ibom, and Cross River.
Otubure emphasized that these statistics are not just numbers; they serve as warning signs that could disrupt the upcoming gubernatorial elections. ReadyToLeadAfrica has taken proactive steps to address this growing crisis, launching a crucial peace initiative and initiating the Youth Against Electoral Violence Accord (YAEVA) project in these states. Their primary goal is to amplify the call for peace and encourage all candidates to pledge their commitment to fostering a peaceful electoral environment.
Otubure urged all candidates to embrace this message of peace and honor the invitations extended to them. In the days ahead, a significant signing ceremony for the youth-led peace accord will take place, where candidates from various political backgrounds will come together in their respective state capitals to make this solemn commitment. Together, they aim to counter the tide of electoral violence and create a future where democracy flourishes without the shadows of violence and discord.
