Nigerian Minister Of Women Affairs Issues Ultimatum To United Nations Over $100 Million Women’s Fund Expenditure
Expressing deep concerns about the apparent lack of tangible achievements from the $100 million women’s development fund provided by the United Nations, Minister of Women Affairs, Uju Kennedy-Ohanenye, has given the United Nations and international agencies a one-month ultimatum to provide a detailed account of how the funds were spent.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
Kennedy-Ohanenye emphasized her reasons for issuing the ultimatum, particularly questioning how the fund was utilized, where the highest amount given to beneficiaries ranged from N30,000 to N60,000.
Demanding transparency regarding the allocation of funds intended for women’s agricultural development, she warned that legal action would be pursued if a justifiable explanation was not provided.

She outlined the timeline for the ultimatum, set from October 16 to November 15, during which the organizations are expected to provide the Ministry with a detailed report. If they fail to do so, the Ministry will proceed to court.
Kennedy-Ohanenye stressed that the court action was undertaken in the interest of Nigerian women. She stated that organizations would receive the Ministry’s pre-litigation letter between October 16 and November 8, with the court action commencing by November 15.
Additionally, she promised that immediately following the November 15 deadline, a lawsuit would be filed, and she urged the organizations to come forward and defend the use of funds collected from donors.
Kennedy-Ohanenye expressed her demand for a full financial account from the United Nations and their affiliated agencies, stating that they must prove their actions justified the funds they received.
She reiterated the schedule, with a pre-action letter being sent from the Ministry by November 8 on behalf of Nigerian women and children, who make up over 70 percent of the population. After that, legal action will be initiated to seek a detailed account of fund expenditure. She highlighted the concern that significant amounts of money, ranging from N140 to N148 million, had been designated for purposes such as policy making, technical support, summits, and other activities that were seemingly unrelated to the fund’s intended purpose.
